Our Story, 38 years in the making.
Dave Wozniak opened the first Sunshine Garden Center in 1981. He was married to Connie in 1983 and opened the Braceville location. In the fall of 1985 the store in Diamond (our current location) opened its doors. As the business grew so did their 5 kids. If you are one of our long time customers, you probably remember watching them grow up at the store. In 2008 Dave past away, so Sarah (Dave and Connie’s oldest daughter) started taking on the responsibilities of running the business. In November of 2013 we were in the path of one of the tornadoes that came through the area. It left our store intact but destroyed our greenhouses and some of the buildings we had on the property. Since then we have worked tirelessly to rebuild and start fresh. The overall feel of the store and property has had significant changes and our ties to the community have grown deeper.
Since the tornado in 2013, we have changed everything from the way we look to the way we think about gardening to what our community is missing. We spent 2014 rebuilding and 2015 reinventing our self. We have listened to our customers and have made changes and tweaked those changes and will continue to tweak them to make sure we are getting our customers what they are looking for. These changes have brought in new, non-seasonal product lines, some home decor and unique gift ideas year round. We have transformed the greenhouse into an outdoor showroom to give people an idea of how to products in their yards or how to make their project come to life. We have also expanded the events and classes that we offer year round.
Our goal is that you come to Sunshine Garden Center and feel relaxed, inspired and leave feeling good about gardening. We will be taking some of the most popular ideas out there and creating them here. We are committing to bringing this community new items, new scenery and new events through the year to create a one of a kind experience. There will be A LOT of new things happening in our future and we are excited to have you along for the ride.
